.

A task I had to do for my Uni course today.

Whilst for most, listening to a continual array of songs over a period that may last from 1 hour to 3 or 4 hours may seem like torture. For myself and many Smidgem readers, it is a tool that plays and pulls on feelings and emotions and can even dictate your overall mood and outlook on certain things.

If you are unfamiliar with what I am referring to, it is the modern form of publishing that goes by the name of Podcasting. Amongst todays cut throat electronic music market, getting your name out there can prove to be a difficult task. And podcasting has undeniably been a major stepping-stone for many established artists today.

A vast majority or people who listen to podcasts or (mixes) will often hold down the skip button and cut to the songs that are most familiar to them And if you had to ask me I would say this defeats the whole purpose of the podcast . If this is the case, you should just listen to the song on its own.

Here’s an example. You pick up a magazine and find an interesting article, now as you read the first few sentences you get impatient and briefly flick over the piece and only read what sounds interesting for yourself. Now if I was to ask you questions about the article and get you to tell me what it was about you would only be tell me bits and pieces and more than likely give a distorted impression of what the author is trying to say.So in other words you have missed the whole point and direction of the article. So next time your listening to a mix, even if you don’t like the sound or feel of a certain track, just stick it out ,because there is a good chance that its been put in the mix to alter or create the mood on the dancefloor or in your head.

If you missed them for some stilly reason, heres the links to some mixes from the Smidgem writers.

Jim Junkie -Peanut Butter & Party Jams

Thrusher & Rampant -Touch & Go Mix.

My favorite to this day is Justices 2008 X-mas mix, rejected by Fabric for some obscure reason. This is a true music rollercoaster.
