Some fresh new music to bring in the impending new year. 'Was' is up and coming Australian producer Wesley Steven who is set to smash into the scene at any time. I don't know much about him however I did briefly go to school with him around 5 years back. This track samples the "Tash" song "Pimpin' Ain't Easy". A great fidgety banger that channels Insane! by Smoke and Mirrors ( A DJ Neoteric side project). This tack will tear apart dance-floors and speakers alike. As far as I know this is a Smidgem exclusive so get amongst it.

Where is my mind?

I'm getting sick at the moment and it sucks pretty bad. Usually I will only get one sickness per winter so hopefully this will pass and I'll be spritely once more. On a different note Bassnectar or Lorin Ashton as I'm sure he is known to his friends has made a truly 'amazing' piece of music with his re-working of The Pixies classic 'Where Is My Mind'. Being a huge fan of the original I love everything about this version, but rather than explain what's going on in the track I'll let Mr Ashton do the honors.

“This is just a simple chunk of bass and beats, probably not dubstep because it is 20 bpm faster, probably not D&B because it doesn’t follow the rules, but its thick and deep and it should be yours. If you are a DJ and want a nice instrumental banger for your sets, this jam has some heavy bass and a nice clean beat loop at the beginning running at 85 bpm…perfect to thicken up any hip hop, drum & bass, dub, downtempo or dubstep track, also a nice little acapella synth at the end…”

The Pixies - Where Is My Mind (Bassnectar Remix)

Bonus: If you don't know this scene...well....yeah.

Bonus Bonus: Just watch and listen.

As many of you would know our public servants a.k.a sydney buses went on a strike today with no notice! Conveniently it was the last day of work for many, the first day in about 3 months sydney has had rain and the last friday before christmas. I don't think they could have chosen a better day to turn Sydney into gridlock and chaos. To calm everyones nerves a little i have decided to put up a few of my favorite tracks at the moment to better the mood. So i hope you all enjoy!!!

Regards,

Trash

Blau Me Away!

Laidback Luke has been smashing out non-stop bangers recently including "Hey", probably one of the electro anthems this year. However After teaming up with another favourite Mr. Lee Mortimer they have created a banging track called "Blau"! The name says it all getting starting up with a fidgety build up which quickly drops into a smashing bassline thats sure to blow you away......... think Jack Beats. One of my favourite remixes is by the LA Riots who are another bunch of guys killing it recently. Check out their other remixes here!

Afrojack

After a disappointing sterosonic experience with the bloody beetroots starting a riot in sydney i have now realised how "mainstream" they have become. As much as i love their tracks i am also enjoying Afrojack lately, who is a little more under the radar at the moment. Check out this bootleg by "Flavo"!!!

Zero Machine

Hello loyal readers. Sorry for the lack of posts over the last couple of days, I've been very busy drinking myself into an early grave however I have some great new stuff one the way so stay tuned. First up I thought I would upload a little edit I did with some downtime I've had recently. I've always liked the Smashing Pumpkins particularly their song Zero and about a year ago I stumbled across a nice re-working that American producer Le Castle Vania did which he called Zero Machine. I came to the conclusion one day that it would sound totally rad with some baile funk style drums behind it. So I did exactly that and chopped it up a a little in the process. Enjoi!

Le Castle Vania - Zero Machine (Thrusher's Baile Funk ReEdit)

Also I think I found the inspiration for the 'Pon De Floor' music video!

You've been trumped!

Trumpdisco are the best thing coming out of Australia right now. WIth amazingly clean and crisp productions and a dark and ominous sound that just begs to be played at 3am when you're covered head to toe in sweat.

Trumpdisco - Depraved

They recently put an entry in the AC Slater 'Hello' remix comp, getting an honorable mention with this optimus prime, bass heavy rendition.

AC Slater - Hello (Trumpdisco Remix)

Another original by the boys that samples Supermassive Blackhole by Muse. Killer tune that tears dancefloors to shreds!

Trumpdisco - Supermassive

Enjoi!!

A little better all the time

just caught this track courtesy of KidCity (although the track is listed as 'Getting Getter' which I assume was a typo). This is a track by Bass Weazal's alter ego Punk Rolla, it's super fidgety and with a Beatles hook it will be a dancefloor monster for sure!!

The Beatles - Getting Better (Punk Rolla Remix)

Go With The Flow

I've been really feelin' this little number lately..

Röyksopp  - Got With The Flow (Queens Of The Stoneage cover)

Get Cut!

There's something about those airy pipes that I just love about this song...and that reverb rich guitar...just gold!

Cutting Crew - (I Just) Died In Your Arms

Apparently Cutting Crew had a few more quasi-hits after this but like most of the 80's one hit wonder bands no one really cared.

I came across this sometime last year. Curses! is Drop The Limes  alter-ego that he apparently created to get some more mainstream attention and I think he has done a good job sampling Cutting Crew in this little number.
