Head

It's been a while since I posted however I have been busy and do apologise. On the other hand my line of work allows me the freedom of listening to a lot of music which is just great. So whilst at work with my iPod on shuffle Paranoid Android by Radiohead came on. I just absolutely love this song along with the band. It's pure genius! The song broke musical boundaries with sections in 7/8 time... gaaah that doesn't make sense! Thom Yorke and Radiohead are possibly one of the most musically revolutionary bands to date and I thank them for everything they've done for music as a whole!

Radiohead - Paranoid Android

When Radiohead released 'In Rainbows' they held some remix contests for two tracks off the album so as a bone-ass I thought I would post up my favourite of each...

Radiohead - Nude (Holy Fuck Remix)

Radiohead - Reckoner (Diplo Remix)

Super Bone-ass
Great clip... ooh Parlophone seems to have disabled embedding...jerks! I was going to post the Karma Police video but instead here's two performances from Glastonbury in 2003..truly powerful stuff.

Tim & Jean

Some not super new but definitely super fresh music from Australian band Tim & Jean. These two WA lads are 18 (Tim) and 15 (Jean). Their song 'Come Around' is a happy, synth heavy, indie-pop delight. It's been on repeat here at the Smidgem office for some time now and I'll always put it on when I need a pick me up, such a happy tune. When I found out how young these two were I was certainly shocked. Their music and lyrics have a funny sense of sophistication to them that I would not expect from men of such a young age. With various festival dates booked around Oz this summer I see HUGE things in the future for these two whippersnappers!

How house should be..

Happy 2010 Smidgemers, hope your respective festivities were bouncing and the supply of intoxicants ample.

I've been over that 'big' house sound for a while now, that mainroom shit they play in Sydney's more 'trendy' places with seemingly endless repetitive basslines, rolling kicks and female vocal hooks drives me insane.  You could hit a baby with a cat in a studio and produce better music. Now onto my point, I was scrolling through my music the other day and came across the Kris Menace remix of Shooting Stars by 'classically trained, turned ruler of all things dance' Sydney duo Bag Raiders. Now this is what house is! So deep and rich with so many layers that makes this song just a blessing on the ears. This song went from a play count of 3 to about 53 in a matter of days.. absolutely loving it..and now it's yours!

Bonus
Here's a 2008 release that Mr Menace did with Spooky. This tune is -is--is well... just great.
