Any of the above names would be acceptable when describing Caleb Crinis but he likes to go under the guise of Narrator. If you have been following Smidgem for a while then no doubt you have also been following the progression of Narrator as he has been featured over and over in these pages. So it was kind of a no brainer to ask him to step up to the plate for our third guestmix.
He compiled the tracklist mostly with his own bootlegs and borrowed a couple of his good mate Ruslan for good measure. Right out of the gates this mix is fucking banging!! Filled with high energy electro with some insane breakdowns that will instantly put the cheesiest grin on your face. SlipperyWhenWet DJs were born in June 09, when Russ & Dean discovered that while other people’s eyes glazed over at their endless music-nerd talk ,they both shared a passionate love for electronic music, and could spend hours playing tracks for each other and crapping on about electro to fidget to dubstep. Already the coolest kids on the South coast, it wasn’t too long before the DJ duo grew too big for the Wollongong pond and started to head up to Sydney every weekend, where they felt so at home they quickly took up residences at the infamous club 77( Starfuckers), and Candys Apartment. The boys have been killing it on a few solo projects and collab's too under their other guises Ruslan & DeanJay. They're definitly a act to go out of your way to see!
They just sent through this awesome 20 min mix that is jam packed with the most banging tracks going round and it has plenty of their own work thrown in the mix too. This has been on serious repeat!
We really need to start featuring the 'local love' post a lot more here on Smidgem. Considering the amount of up and coming talent that is coming through the ranks in Australia is so impressive!
First up we have Canberra based Dj/Producer Offtapia. He would have to be one of the most impressive Djs to watch live, he reads the crowd so well every set is better than the last. Big things to come so stay tuned for plenty more from this guy. Here is a very bouncy bootleg that Offtapia recently sent me.
Still staying in the nations capital (Canberra) we have Team Wing on remix duties for The Aston Shuffle. This track starts out as a super mellow house jam with an epic vocal throughout but once that drivey bassline comes in..... Well listen for yourself.
Now we head over to the beachside town of Wollongong where these two kids have been making plenty of waves. Narrator & Ruslan teamed up to bring us this monster of a track, The breakdown is way cool, i found myself with this on repeat for ages..
Finally we head down to Melbourne to check out some fresh dubstep from Zayler. This kid is responsible for bringing dubstep to the streets down there with hosting the now legendary parties known as Voltage. Recently hosting heavy hitters Flux Pavillion and Doctor P. Borgore due to play very soon.
