.

A task I had to do for my Uni course today.

Whilst for most, listening to a continual array of songs over a period that may last from 1 hour to 3 or 4 hours may seem like torture. For myself and many Smidgem readers, it is a tool that plays and pulls on feelings and emotions and can even dictate your overall mood and outlook on certain things.

If you are unfamiliar with what I am referring to, it is the modern form of publishing that goes by the name of Podcasting. Amongst todays cut throat electronic music market, getting your name out there can prove to be a difficult task. And podcasting has undeniably been a major stepping-stone for many established artists today.

A vast majority or people who listen to podcasts or (mixes) will often hold down the skip button and cut to the songs that are most familiar to them And if you had to ask me I would say this defeats the whole purpose of the podcast . If this is the case, you should just listen to the song on its own.

Here’s an example. You pick up a magazine and find an interesting article, now as you read the first few sentences you get impatient and briefly flick over the piece and only read what sounds interesting for yourself. Now if I was to ask you questions about the article and get you to tell me what it was about you would only be tell me bits and pieces and more than likely give a distorted impression of what the author is trying to say.So in other words you have missed the whole point and direction of the article. So next time your listening to a mix, even if you don’t like the sound or feel of a certain track, just stick it out ,because there is a good chance that its been put in the mix to alter or create the mood on the dancefloor or in your head.

If you missed them for some stilly reason, heres the links to some mixes from the Smidgem writers.

Jim Junkie -Peanut Butter & Party Jams

Thrusher & Rampant -Touch & Go Mix.

My favorite to this day is Justices 2008 X-mas mix, rejected by Fabric for some obscure reason. This is a true music rollercoaster.

Beat The Weekend part. 11

It has been way too long since the last beat the weekend so I'm going to double up the post size and throw in tunes from a whole range of genres..

First up LA Riots layed hands to Soulwax's epic track 'miserable girl'. They didnt tweak it too much which i really liked, just enough to make it pop (again)

Tho original of this has been doing the rounds for a while now and ive constantly been wondering when some solid remixes of it will come out. Both of these are awesome

I love everything Uffie. She seems to make everything sound so dirty. Far Too Loud have gone out of thier way to make this even dirtier. The dancefloor will absoultely erupt when this gets dropped. Mark my words!

This track has been kicking round for a while now but only really came to my attention when Wolfgang Gartner dropped on his Radio One mixtape. The best thing about this is that it's by two local Sydney siders Tommy Trash and Tom Piper. Really really good production and a classic anthem. We'll be hearing this for years to come!

Hopefully you all got well and truly hooked on Belzebass' soundcloud, I know i was stuck there for a couple of hours. Here's another thumper from the italian pair.

I have completley fallen in love with this track. Martin Solveig killed it by sourcing Dragonette for the vocals. Her voice is amazing, she sounds so hot!

And of course it wouldn't be weekend with out some fresh dubstep. I've been hanging out for the release of this since i saw footage of Rusko drop this at some major festival. Sent the crowd in to a frenzy. "Let the bass cannon kick it"

The Subs - The Face Of The Planet

‘The Face of the Planet’ is the opening track and first single of The Subs’ freshly squeezed full album ‘DECONTROL’ that will be released on Lektroluv end of March.
The single will be out 7th of March. Having being remixed by so many big wigs its hard to pick a favourite. I think
Gtronic takes the cake but!! The Subs weaved all the remixes together in this mashup.

Belzebass

Belzebass are two stupid producers who like/love to play heavy shit! Influences : indie electro - weed - electrotrash - heavy wobbling bass - deathcore - dislessia - distorted bass - vagina - sidechain massacre. Thier remix that just got put on thier soundcloud yesterday of DJ Antention's 'Ivan' is in a league of its own. With distorted bass, dubstep and eclectic synth stabs. Due to be released on TUFFEM UP! Records this is definitly one that I'll be counting down the days till i can get my grubby little hands on it. The duo will be hitting Australian shores on the 4th March for a 2 week tour. Check thier myspace for all the dates..

Here is more gold from the boys. Most of this stuff is available at Beatport too so be sure to check it out and purchase it!!

Team Wing

Its always good to support the local up and coming aussies. Team Wing have been turning heads for a while now with thier DJ sets, especially in thier home town of Canberra. The boys have been busy in the studio aswell, having already released an EP (which you can grab in the iTunes store) and having a slew of remixes under the belt. Here's a couple that really caught my attention.

The boys were featured in the 'Local Love' post a short while back. Read more about them and grab some more tracks here.

Like A G6

I just got a hold of this edit of 'Like a G6' yetserday. The original is by the LA based Far East Movement. Sydney siders Matt Nukewood and E-Cats (aka Stacey Butler) teamed up to bring the rain with thier remix. It starts off with a fun and bouncy bassline with awesome vocals then morphs into a bit of dubstep (probably due to Stacey being one half of dubstep outfit Glove Cats) Definitly a huge weapon for the DJs out there!

February’s Bangin!

Yo!
I wrote a massive post a couple weeks back.
But I was so busy, I never got round to settin up the mp3’s & posting it…
And now it all seems irrelevant! (don’t you hate that??)
So here’s my second attempt at my February contribution!

Bassjackers anyone?!
They’re touring Aus very soon. Bunch of dates, check their page; …http…
Of late, have been making some epic Electro/Dutch bangers, but my fav by far is an older tune, from their collab with Apster; Klambu.

Bassjackers & Apster - Klambu (Original Mix)
Mad Bouncy Conga house, with awesome percussion samples.

More recently they remixed Martin Solveig’s track Hello ft. Dragonette, which has been going big in the club charts. Not my fav, but people seem to froth!;
Martin Solveig feat. Dragonette - Hello (Bassjackers Remix)

& do get your hands on this one. Stupidly fat bangin Dutch house.
Quintino - I Feel (Bassjackers Remix).mp3

‘What So? Not’ & ‘Kyro & Bomber’ all down for the party, as well having remix’s featured on the record.
Have a suss;
