Musical Insanity
Since I lagged so much on my 2nd post, I made sure to share some absolute fire with y'all. This first one is easily one of the best jams I've heard this year - dark & driving yet still sexy & edgy. I lose my shit at 1:54. I'd never heard of Claudia either, but I hope we can expect more magic like this.
Next up, one of the catchiest tunes I've enjoyed in a long while. Nu-disco with some funk to it, and the vocal is HOT! The boys from Route 94 and Secondcity were nice enough to make it a free download. TRY not getting this one stuck in your head.
Time for some gangsta shit. The title says it all! Tapesh has been on fire lately releasing on labels like Noir Music, OFF, Suara, and new material (like this heater) out on Electronique later this summer. Add this track to his long list of dancefloor bangers.
I didn't know what to expect when Blond:ish announced a release on Kompakt, but it sure as hell wasn't this. A heavy, atmospheric deep techno track in which the girls continue to show the vast range of styles they can throw down. Can't wait to hear them play this one late-night on the playa at Burning Man in a few weeks!
Last but not least, an absolute gem which I still consider a favorite after 2+ years. Deep banger with a haunting vocal and insane bassline. Can't really go wrong with Diynamic!
Use these jams wisely! Or don't and do what I'm doing, just hit play and fucking party. Peace out.

[Insert Dope Jams Here]
Hey everyone,
Alex P here, Smidgem's newest curator and contributor. Born & raised in Los Angeles and having also lived in El Salvador where I first experienced electronic music, I immersed myself in the scene during college in LA, then began DJing ~4 yrs ago, and the rest is history. Not sure where I'd be without this passion for the underground but I'd have it no other way. Fin knows I don't rest when it comes to hunting down the kind of quality track that makes the entire body shiver, be it a techy peak-time slammer, a sexy Chicago house joint, a groovy melodic masterpiece à la Lee Burridge (all-time favorite DJ), or a deep & dark journey.
As I'm sure you guessed, I focus mainly on house, techno, (some) disco + derivatives like tech house, "nu-deep" (preferred term for the new wave of deep house), jackin' house, melodica, deep tech...the list perpetually grows. My roots are undoubtedly to thank for my love of all things Latin (bongos, Spanish vocals, maracas, etc.) but I always explore an array of other styles on any given day as well to expand my horizons and stay current.
In all honesty, I admit I can be a "music snob." Having *said* that (Curb Your Enthusiasm, anyone?), I constantly feel a strong urge to share discoveries with friends and like-minded groovers - it's impossible to DJ and not feel this need (like it's impossible for a house-/techno-head to not be at least a tad elitist). I'm VERY much looking forward to spreading the love to more people through the site - snobby but never stingy! Thanks for makin' it happen Fin!
Now I'd just like to add examples of some of the styles you can expect from me. I hope everyone enjoys the selection, much love!
DEEP GROOVES
House Madness!
And finally, my favorite set so far this year. Alex is one of my current favorites, keep an eye out for this guy - he's a beast! Seamlessly weaves through different styles and vibes like he's a seasoned veteran.
Enjoy! I'd love to hear some feedback, feel free to leave any comments you may have. - AP

The Purple Ride (Mixtape) – Brodinski
Brodinski & Gesaffelstein
As promised last week, Brodinski delivers his newest mix tape and it’s filled with straight heaters! As he opens a new chapter of Bromance Records in the US, he gives this to us as a gift. Brodinski notes that this is simply a collection of music he loves. No purpose or promotion behind the track selection other than good taste. The Frenchie gives us a great mix of tracks in this mix ranging from techno influenced deep house to hip-hop and trap.
What Brodinski has to say.
“The Purple Ride mixtape is in a certain way the sequel, the
extension of my last one, “Late Night Alternative”. This is a
concentrate of everything I love. No compromise, no label, no nothing,
just music. As you may have understood with our last release on
Bromance, the Kaytranada x Suicideyear EP, we are opening new doors.
We just wanted the label to be the mirror of who we are, and when you find someone who got talent, whatever the genre of his music is, you just put it out when you got the opportunity to do so.
We got something really special coming out this summer, I’ll tell you a little bit more next week. I can’t wait to let you hear, stay tuned!”

Amicalement EP – Mr. Oizo
Mr. Oizo is known for his unique take on music. Using the most absurd sounds too create music you’ve rarely heard before. Most would probably call it techno, but even that’s a stretch. His newest effort is Amicalement, a four track EP. Each track gives the listener a different vibe. Even Marilyn Manson is featured on “Solid”, which isn’t as creepy as you’d think and honestly stands out among the other three tracks. Click the link below to be redirected to Mr Oizo's cleverly animated website for the EP download
